As we get closer to the Easter celebrations, Lent’s penitential purple is lightened arose colored vestment for Laetare Sunday shade this Sunday to rose, a lighter version of violet. While our liturgical texts still bluntly remind us this Sunday of our sinfulness and depravity they also bid us to rejoice, because God in His immeasurable mercy loves us “even when we were dead in our transgressions.”

In today’s liturgy, Christ offers us a personal invitation to beautify ourselves by walking into the light. He invites us to expose ourselves to His transformative truth: a truth that frees us from all types of enslavements, be they physical, emotional, psychological, communal, or spiritual. Hope is within our grasp and ours for the seizing. Rejoice!
